The social networking Jabbar
I was a bit dumbfounded to see this on Facebook today
Mostafa Jabbar doesn’t keep any stones unturned now…does he
He has tons…yet he still needs more?
Any why on earth is he vouching for Avro?
Finally…something that isn’t as hypothetically absurd as an online petition
Quader Mollah sued over Liberation War comment
Thu, Nov 8th, 2007 5:59 pm BdST
Madaripur, Nov 08 (bdnews24.com) – A Madaripur lawyer Thursday filed a case against Abdul Quader Mollah, assistant secretary general of the Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, for his defamatory comment against the Liberation War.
Lawyer M Obaidur Rahman Khan filed the case with the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Madaripur.
The magistrate sent the case to Madaripur Sadar Police Station to open an investigation.
The lawyer moved the case on the basis of a newspaper report in which Mollah was quoted to have said that some people had joined the war to fight against the Pakistani army in 1971 to have “beautiful women, some others for property and some to protect Indian interests”.
Daily Ittefaq editor Anwar Hossain, acting editor Rahat Khan, publisher Saju Hossain and three others have been made witnesses in the case since the report was published in the leading newspaper on Oct 31, according to case documents.
Mollah had reportedly made the statement at a discussion on the life and work of late Baitul Mokarram Khatib Obaidul Huq in Dhaka.
Obaidur Rahman accused Mollah of trying to destroy peace of the people through such a statement.
He also called the senior Jamaat leader “a cheat and fanatic”.
Mollah’s statement, Obaidur said, has humiliated the freedom fighters who had joined the Liberation War to earn freedom.
His statement has created unease in the country, Obaidur said.
Definitely a tactical step forward for the struggle against a common evil. Instead of signing online petition and sitting our asses over at the comfy ambience of our house, we should do real time assaults on the Jamati cause.

Following the "Bangladesh boat diary"

Ben Sutherland, a correspondent of BBC, is taking a trip down the “Planet’s Poverty Central” this month on his subtly documented journey across Bangladesh on board the vessel MV Aboshor (fancy name, damn). He and his crack team of dedicated journalist are sailing down some of the biggest deltas of this world, reporting every moment of it in tasty details and also propelling their project ordinates of “Tracking and debating climate change/shift” in countries like ours. The BBC folks have harnessed the power of social networking in their aid, reporting live status of their journey into the illiterate unknown via their own Twitter channel. For example, their last status message reads:

Awesome, isn’t it? They’ve also befriended the power of the mighty photons from the sun by using solar panels as their “Day Time Primary Energy Source” and “Nightime Backups”. Now if I wasn’t already too accustomed to abusing the nature and slowly suffocating all its resources, I’d say “Thats mighty fine”. But unfortunately, I didn’t grow up in a society filled with treehuggers (although, I wouldn’t mind that much either).
But seriously though, Ben and his team is doing an excellent job providing us with a comically morphed view of the Bangladeshi countryside from the perspective of a perpetual “BILATI”. I recommend following his articles, you might just get the kicks out of it like I did.
